Winter Destination: Karnten
Unlimited fun on skis, ice and hospitality. This is how I can summarize what means a winter vacation in the Alps in Karnten (Carinthia). If you have not yet made plans for vacation this year, we propose as a destination one of the most beautiful regions from the Austrian Alps: Karnten. With a little more mild climate than other ski areas, Karnten is the perfect destination for lovers of skiing, spa, hiking through snow, snowboard, travel with dog sleds.
Hiking, skiing and sledding
With 1060 km of slopes for all skiers, regardless of experience, the southernmost region of Austria awaits guests each year with fun for everyone. You can not ski? Throughout the region there are ski schools and even of skating. If you are passionate about sports on the slopes, hiking is now in vogue. With mountains located at all altitudes, Karnten offers the best prerequisites for such tours.
From Tauren region to southern Karnten region, the idyllic valley Lesachtal and up the wide valley Lavanttal, climbing is a unique experience. Those who do not want to get walking, some areas offers so-called sledding-taxis. Do not forget, of course, recreational sledding, slopes lit at night, awaken memories of childhood.
Weissensee, the meeting point of skaters from around the world
Weissensee is a great tourist attraction, the lake situated at the highest altitude where you can bath winter is the largest natural ice surface. Here is where, on 6.5 square km, meet skaters from all over the world. In Villach, Bleiber Bad, Bad Kleinkirchheimer and St. Kathrein can be found the famous thermal baths and the slogan “from the slope, in thermal bath” must be understood as such: after sports is entering in the hot water to restore harmony between body and soul.
Do not miss the accommodation on a rustic farm!
Karnten provides diversity in terms of accommodation. Tourists can choose between top hotels, bourgeois houses, inns or private accommodation. The latest trend is represented by the vacation at farms where the owner creates an absolute rustic atmosphere: snowshoe hiking, sledding, winter riding and even knitting classes. An alternative form of accommodation, which promises a luxurious relaxation room, is the stone pine, found in many hotels, hostels and apartments, but especially in Bad Kleinkirchheim.
Do not forget about shopping, of course! Close to many ski areas from Karnten are the cities that offers many possibilities: walking in a pleasant atmosphere, shopping, theater or concerts. If you go in Karnten before Christmas, should not lose traditional Advent fairs from Klagenfurt, Villach or Spittal. Do not miss Advent from Velden, where you can enjoy a mulled wine in the magical setting of the bank’s Wörthersee.
